Veronica May (Saturday, October 20, 2018)
![]() Every time we've seen Veronica May perform, we've come away wanting more. Come join us for our final frogstop concert of 2018 to learn why.
We first heard Veronica as part of The Lovebirds duo (with Lindsay White), and have continued to be impressed by her work as a solo artist. Her 2017 album, Awakened, features guests like Jason Mraz, Jeff Johnson, and Jeff Berkley of Berkley Hart. Her music is simultaneously intimate and powerful. As described on her website, Veronica May is a "musician, maniac, mental health advocate, and author. Playing music since 1985, living with Bipolar 1 Disorder since 2008, traveling to educate on mental illness, and tying it all together in her unreleased autobiography, Open Book, Veronica May's purpose is to spread her messages of compassion, understanding, hope, triumph and the importance of trial. Her music and illustrations depicting mental illness awaken the mind, stir the heart, and open the eyes to the wild world of thought and perception." Here's what Veronica has to say about why the arts matter: "Music matters. It isn’t just something to listen to, to dance to, and sing to. It is something that creates an emotion, sparks a memory, and causes a movement. Music ignites our creative mind. It is a bold streak of red in the fog. For many, it can change a moment from being alive to feeling alive." (Full article in The San Diego Union-Tribune.) A true original. Veronica May’s music oozes with creativity and inventiveness, not to mention her tremendous talent. The first time I heard her play, I was smitten! ~ Liz Abbott, SAN DIEGO TROUBADOUR We've created a YouTube playlist to introduce you to Veronica May:
